Trevor "the Tornado" Montgomery dominated the NSRA field Saturday night to win his second consecutive feature event - this time a 30 lapper on the ½ mile tri-oval at Tri-Cities Raceway in West Richland, WA. Fast timer Craig Deaver finished second with Randy Bauer, Mike Baisch and Allen Goetz rounding out the top five. Montgomery lost a motor in hot laps but the Lemonty Racing crew was up to the challenge and the three time NSRA titlist was ready for the night's racing action. The feature, which ran green, white, checker proved just how ready.
Pole sitter Baisch grabbed the lead at the drop of the green with Deaver, Montgomery, Goetz, Geoff Wade, Bob Beck and Rick Brown filling the top seven at the end of the first lap. The top three broke away from the field early with Montgomery getting past Deaver for the second spot on the 3rd lap. Baisch held the lead with Montgomery all over him until lap 15 when Montgomery grabbed the front spot.
The mid-portion of the event featured battles throughout the field as the top three worked through traffic, fourth running Goetz held off Bauer who had worked his way up from 11 starting while Wade, Brown and Beck went at it wing to wing for 6th.
Montgomery pulled away over the final 10 laps with Deaver regaining 2nd as Baisch faded with a worn right rear tire. Bauer grabbed third from Baisch on lap 28 with Goetz running alone in fifth. Brown, Beck, Brian Smith, Wade and Mike Sullivan filled the top ten.
Deaver's fast time was 14.822. Brown won the first heat over Montgomery and Beck; Montgomery and Bauer made contact early in the event with Bauer pitting. Goetz took heat two over Deaver and Todd Coleman when leader Randy Dubois lost his motor on the white flag lap. Baisch won the A Dash and Mike Sullivan took the B Dash.
