STARKS, BULLARD & PRICE RECORD "WESTERN STATES" WINS MIDGETS AT MADERA AND STOCKTON, CA

(Sunday April 7th) Stockton, CA- John Starks of Puyallup, Wash. and Rory Price
of Edmonds, Wash. scored USAC Western Midget Car victories over the
weekend at Madera and Stockton, Calif., while Bryan Bullard of Sacramento,
Calif. captured the inaugural
USAC Western Regional Sprint Car race at Madera.
Starks led the final three laps of Saturday's 30-lap Madera Speedway Midget
race in his Gaerte/Starks machine after leader Tony Hunt ran short of fuel
in the closing laps. Hunt finished second, ahead of Van Knill, Marc
DeBeaumont and series point leader Robby Flock. Shane Scully, Starks and
Hunt all led during the 30-lap contest.
Price earned his initial USAC feature triumph at Stockton 99 Speedway
Sunday, passing Johnny Rodriguez on the 13th lap and leading the rest of the
way in his Price/Westlake Esslinger/TCR to win the 30-lapper over Flock,
Danny Stratton, Glenn Carson and Scully. Starks broke the Stockton track
record during qualifying but was involved in a tangle with Marc DeBeaumont
on the third lap of the feature.
The two Midget Car races were co-sanctioned by BCRA. Josh Wise posted the
fastest qualifying time at Madera.
Bullard, fourth in USAC's 2001 Western Sprint Car Series, led the final 24
laps of the 30-lap Madera Sprint race after passing Anthony Simone. Lady
driver Shauna Hogg finished second, ahead of fast qualifier Jeff Gardner,
defending USAC Western Sprint Car Champ Tony Hunt and Scott Hansen.
Flock emerged with a three-point Western Midget Car lead over Scully going
into this Saturday night's Midget car race at Plaza Park Speedway in
Visalia, Calif. Bullard will lead the Western Regional Sprint cars to their
next venue, Carson Tahoe Champion Speedway in Carson City, Nev. May 11.
Timothy Barber leads the USAC Ford Focus Midget Car Series standings into
this Saturday night's event at the Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.
