Southern Oregon Speedway
(June 14th 2003) Medford, Oregon- Fred Hay made some hay at Justin Holtıs
expense on Saturday night at the Southern Oregon Speedway.
Leading the pack on his way to victory in the D&S
Harley-Davidson Dwarf

the rest of the field slowed, Hay moved all the way from the seventh spot to
take the checkered flag.
While Hay took advantage of an opportunity to win his first
feature, a
pair of veteran winners returned to center stage in their respective
divisions. Jon DeBenedetti and Frank Word III, both defending points
champions, made a clean sweep of the action, winning their heat race, the
trophy dash and the main event. DeBenedettiıs victory lifted him to the top
spot in the modified division.
Also Saturday, Bryan Barns added to his lead with another win
the
Equipment Mart Super 4ıs, besting Pat Akins (who is second to him in the
points) in the feature. Dan Menne also scored a sweep, grabbing all three of
his races in the Burger King Sprint Cars to add to his lead in the division.

the biggest Pro Stock race of the 2003 season at the Southern Oregon
Speedway on Saturday night.
Poppa grabbed the lead early in the second stage of the

Pollard Memorial Feature, cruising to the checkered. The 1999 class champion
in the Pro Stocks, Poppa qualified for the feature by finishing second in
the B Main. Once into the final race he hung near the lead on the first 25

the front after the restart and grabbed the lead from Albert Gill on lap 33
and never looked back, finishing well ahead of the pack.
Poppa said he found the groove in the first half of the race
and stayed
dialed in when action resumed.

Barry Martinez was in the right place at the
right time on Saturday
night at The Southern Oregon Speedway.
(May 24th 2003) Medford, Oregon- The Washington driver answered
when the door opened, winning the main
event in the Northern Sprint Tourıs stop at the Speedway. In the process,
Martinez pocketted $1,800 for his second career victory on the touring
series of high-powered sprint cars.
Two-time defending series champion Roger Crockett appeared to
have the
feature race under control. The fast qualifier on the night and the winner
of his heat race and the trophy dash, Crockett took the top spot 10 laps
into the 30-lap feature and was running away with what would have been his
second victory in two nights after winning the series opener at Lebanon on
Friday. Crockett was working his way through lapped traffic when Rory Price
spun out, claiming Crockett on the 21st lap.
While Crockett was able to continue, he was forced to the
back of the
pack. The remaining nine laps were slowed by yellow flags as Martinez turned
back Shawna Wilskey and Dale Smith for the victory. Wilskey finished second,
earning $1,250.
Todd Zeitler, the defending champion in the regular sprint
car class at
the track, barely got out of the gate, leaving his heat race on the first
lap and never returning due to mechanical problems.
The tour is scheduled to complete the long weekend of racing
with a stop
in Cottage Grove on Sunday night.
In Saturdayıs other racing action, Pat Akins was barely
challenged in
winning the Equipment Mart Super 4 feature. Akins had the line all night,
winning his heat and the trophy dash before taking charge in the main. He
grabbed the lead on the second lap and kept the lead through a variety of
yellow flags on his way to the 20-lap feature victory.
The Sprint Tourıs stop in White City was the first of two
scheduled for
the season. The series returns to the Speedway on Monday, July 16, part of
the annual Speed Week races.
Racing continues Saturday night with the annual Art Pollard
Memorial Pro
Stock Feature highlighting the action. Gates open at 4 pm with the first
green flag waving at 6.
