Racer Results Press Release
Raceway Park, Kalispell, Montana
(May 26, 2003) The Memorial weekend races had great track conditions with clear skies and the sun shinning down. Napa Auto Parts and KOFI / K104 presented the nights racing with 5 explosive classes taking on the speedway. At halftime hundreds of kids of all ages lined up for their ride in a stock car. It was the most kids that the track has had for the semi annual event held at the track, the next kids night will be held Sept. 6th , 2003.
In the Bumper to Bumper Bomber division the #81 car driven by Eugene Klingle had the fast time for the night with a 16:83. The trophy dash and slow heat was won by #8, Bill McCallum. The # 3 car was in the groove, driven by Derrek Brooks. Brooks conquered the fast heat and during the main Brooks took on McCallum, #8 and Don Denning #33 in the 17th lap and held the leading position to the checkered flag.
The compact division has many new drivers taking to the oval for their rookie year, many were experiencing mechanical problems causing lap traffic and grid lock driving conditions for the leaders of the field. Accomplished driver #5 Gene Streitz had the fast time a 15:27 and claimed victory lane on Saturday night. Driver Tim Corbett #12, won the Heat and placed 3rd in the Main.
The small but very fast Formula 1 Indy's were out at the track for the first time this season. Driver Don Staggs, #1 out of Missoula had an incredible night, having fast time a 13:06, placing second in the Heat and firing up his engine winning the main event. Driver Kirk Whenever # 2, who also drives the #25 Super Late Model won the trophy dash and placed 3rd in the main.
The rumble, the sparks and the stomach tightening suspense was pumping through the fans as the Hobby Stocks rolled into their starting positions. In a division with so many competitive drivers the nights events winners are spread. Dan Sagen #3 had fast time with a 15:28, the trophy dash was won by #87 Ed Linn. The #49 car driven by Wade Peters won the heat. The battle was on in the main where one little mistake could cost any driver their position. Justin Drake #13 started out leading the pack trying to hold off Chad Lundstron #2 and Bill Jefferies #29. Lundstrom was in the fight after many attempts passed Drake with Jefferies hot on his bumper, the crowd came to their feet, feeling the intensity of this race and knowing that one little mishap could change the field drastically. Lundstrom led the remaining laps holding off Jefferies to cross over to victory lane.
The last main was the Coors Light / Heinz Auto Limited Sportsman, #6 Danny Morris has an exceptional night claiming fast time, 1st in the Heat and winning the Main event. Driver Preston Kinnison #63 also had a victory in the trophy dash receiving his 1st trophy in the Sportsman division. Malcom Kruse #69 was leading the race trying to hold his position, but from the back Mooris #6 and Cory Wolfe #88 were on the move, both being veteran drivers they were calm, smooth and patient as they made their way to the 1st and 2nd position. Wolfe #88 was looking high and low to make a move on Morris but it didn't surface and to the finish line was Morris #6, Wolfe #88 and Jason Robinson #74 in third.
